John writes… “My notes say we were Farnborough U/16 league champions,
which I don’t remember anything about, I wonder if there are any records
anywhere. Also that we were ‘Finalists, Fred Jones Memorial Cup’ which I’m afraid I remember
all too well. Despite the fancy name, it was the Hampshire Schools U/16
Challenge Cup. It was played at Fleet F.C’s ground. The Jab drove half the team
(including me) to the game and I cannot remember who we were playing. We’d beaten them 7-1 earlier in
the season, but were well beaten 3-1 on the day, the opening goal for them an
absolutely horrible mistake by me, completely missing my kick in the penalty area
giving an unmissable chance. Awful memory.”
