The figure sitting on the left is wearing a school cap. How he kept it on I do not know because the wind coming up that escarpment was strong enough to lean on and the more foolhardy among us did so without falling down the mountainside. The figure standing is clearly female in the original photo. Dont ask me how, I havent a clue!
We walked 16 miles across the Beacons in typical Spring weather, windy and wet with occasional bright spells. On the way back we had to disembark the coach because the bridge we had driven over earlier in the day showed a weight restriction of 2.5 tons which wed failed to see on the outward journey.
The visibility at times was very poor and probably a gang of ill-equipped school boys should not have been there. However if the kill joys from the Health & Safety Executive had been in existence in 1959 we would not have had these memories to look back on.
