John (F.G.S. 1960-1967) writes
My notes say we were Farnborough U/16 league champions,
which I dont remember anything about, I wonder if there are any records
anywhere. Also that we were Finalists, Fred Jones Memorial Cup which Im afraid I remember
all too well. Despite the fancy name, it was the Hampshire Schools U/16
Challenge Cup. It was played at Fleet F.Cs ground. The Jab drove half the team
(including me) to the game and I cannot remember who we were playing. Wed beaten them 7-1 earlier in
the season, but were well beaten 3-1 on the day, the opening goal for them an
absolutely horrible mistake by me, completely missing my kick in the penalty area
giving an unmissable chance. Awful memory.
Terry Bridgeman (F.G.S. 1960-1965) writes… “We won all our matches in the Aldershot and Farnborough
schools league and so we were the champions.
We lost 2-1 to Fernhill School in the first round of the knockout competition
but beat Fernhill School 7-2 away in the 1st round of the Hampshire Schools cup
after having been 2-0 down. We then went to Southampton and beat Bittern Park
School 8-0. In the semi-final we were again drawn away from home and beat
Portsmouth Northern Grammar School by 4-3.
In the final at Fleet we lost 3-1 to Charles Chute School from Basingstoke.
