The site update to allow for a better mobile viewing experience and larger photographs when availabe is still work
in progress but the page links that became broken are now (mainly?) fixed. Styling inconsistencies are slowly beiong addressed.
The Combined Cadet Force, a Friday afternoon compulsory ritual organised by the History master who
called himself Major Thomas. We called him
Tommy Junior unless there was no danger of being overheard when other terms of affection might
be employed! A few years ago when government was discussing how to control the youth of today a
politician suggested re-introducing C.C.F.s in schools. The Daily Telegraph letters page complained
that C.C.F.s were a breeding ground for sadistic teachers and made a direct reference to F.G.S.’s cadet
force. Just who could have been in someone’s mind?
