About this site

I set up this website in 2001 after seeing only a couple of F.G.S. photos at Friends Reunited; I knew I had a hundred or so hidden away somewhere and thought that they might be worth resurrecting. It certainly wasn’t because I had any particular reason to look back with affection to the school, my main skill there was keeping my head down and not being noticed. Since putting the photos on line they have been eclipsed in numbers and variety by others that have arrived from across the globe; well, France, Australia and Canada anyway, in addition to those from the U.K. of course.

Those early pages were accompanied by my own commentary and although I have since tried to make the site less personal and to more closely reflect the many contributions from elsewhere, some pages still reveal their origins. If a sentence includes an 'I' and there is not a more obvious identification it is likely to be a personal comment by me. I don’t much like that as I prefer to think of the site as a more general collection of memories and memorabilia, but it’s not easy to generalize the pages that are entirely from my own resources. I hope you will make allowances for that.

My old photos from 1957 to 1961 were taken on a Braun Paxette 35mm camera (manufactured circa 1948) and home processed on Kodak Tri-X film. Many are technically poor although I am gradually Photoshopping them where the problems are obtrusive.

If you are able to add to the information on this site I would be very pleased to hear from you. The email address is on the Home page.
